MORTISE LOCK
ME 46200: Manufacturing Processes and Materials
Fall 2022
Objective
The purpose of this project was to design a mortise door lock based on existing door lock specs with design changes for improvement and ease of manufacturing. The lock is split into 3 separate sections: the mechanism, the handle, and the frame. The frame holds everything, the handle opens and closes the system, and the mechanism locks the door.

Computer Aided Manufacturing
CAM it is a tool that helps the user manufacture an assembly or component. The CAM parts can be modified and viewed in every angle to demonstrate the functionality and size. It also helps visually assemble the individual pieces as will be demonstrated later on. In order to accommodate the CNC machine which are available in the lab 2.5 axis milling was utilized. The CAM files along with images of some of the CAM parts are attached below:

CAM Files
Most parts used in the mortise lock were not CNC due to the complex geometry or they required use of 3 axis milling which CNC machines in the manufacturing lab are not capable. As such such some of the parts were 3D printed due to the time constraint and ease of using/printing. Some parts were even manufactured using traditional machining tools such as bending brakes, bandsaw, belt sander, vise, etc. While some standard parts such as screws, bolts, and spindles were bought.
